As of January 1, 2014, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has mandated that all ICANN accredited registrars begin verifying the WHOIS contact information for all new domain registrations and Registrant contact modifications.

Along with annual notification to verify ownership contact details, domain name owners can expect a verification email each time an update to contact details are made.

Following the change of ownership contact details, an email with the subject such as:

"IMMEDIATE VERIFICATION required for... your-domain-name.com"

  • The email will contain a verification link requireing you to click and confirm your details.
  • Responce to this email within 15 days is required to maintain verified ownership of your domain name.
  • Failure to respond will result in suspension of the domain name and services associated with the name will stop.
